Mallett Picks Up Four Top-10 Finishes During USCS Speedweek

Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (June 5, 2018) – Jordon Mallett earned four top-10 finishes during the recent USCS Speedweek. The mini-series was scheduled to compete seven times in nine nights, but rain was victorious on three occasions.

Following a rainout at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., on May 25, Speedweek began the following night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., where Mallett finished seventh.

“We just couldn’t get the car where we wanted it at Jackson,” he said. “We struggled all night and couldn’t get a good balance on the car. We weren’t really happy with the car and the results show it. Sometimes you just can’t get the car to work like you want them to.”

Rainouts followed the next two nights at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Miss., and at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn.

Speedweek returned to action last Thursday at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala. Mallett advance in a heat race from seventh to fourth and in the feature he also gained a couple of spots on a track that was difficult to pass on to place ninth.

“Track position is key at Talladega and we had a tough heat race and didn’t get to start very far forward,” he explained. “We basically finished where we started. There is not a whole lot of passing at Talladega. It’s kind of to be expected.”

Mallett returned to Mississippi on Friday for a visit to Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus. In the main event, he powered his way from the 13th starting position to finish sixth.

“We were a lot more dialed in for Magnolia,” he said. “The car was really good. We just ran out of time. We could work a lot of places on the race track that no one else could and made up a lot of spots. As big as that place is, it’s easy for cars to get strung out and then it takes several laps to chase somebody down. We had a podium car for sure, but just started too far back.”

Speedweek concluded at the historic Riverside International Speedway on Saturday. Mallett was fast right out of the box, powering his way to a second-place effort in the dash before earning a heat race win.

The native of Greenbrier, Ark., started seventh in the A Main and had a solid run going when he spun due to a flat right rear tire, which led him to restart at the back of the field. Mallett was able to claw his way forward to salvage a 10th-place finish.

“We had the car to beat all night long,” he said. “That’s my second home. I love that place. We have really high expectations when we go there. That’s a place we show up to and expect to win no matter what. We had the car to do it again. I did not know it was a flat tire rear. I actually thought I had broken the Jacobs Ladder. If I would have known it was a flat right rear we would have pulled in and changed that tire. It was an awfully disappointing night. We were in another time zone from everyone else, but sometimes it happens.”

Mallett will race twice this weekend with the USCS Series. On Friday, he’ll head to Hattiesburg Speedway for the rescheduled date of what was originally the opener of Speedweek. On Saturday, the 25-year-old will hit the track at ECM Speedway in Bremen, Ala.
